Vein Disease - Drlweinstein

Vein Disease

Healthy veins have a continuous blood flow from the extremities to the heart. Valves in the veins of the legs help prevent blood from flowing back. Insufficient veins are no longer effective in this function due to weak valves, which slow down blood movement, allowing it to accumulate in the legs.

The symptoms of venous disease can vary greatly, they can be as simple as swelling, discomfort, and pain in the legs or they can also be large varicose veins that can be very unsightly. Sometimes, varicose veins can progress without proper treatment and cause skin ulcers, skin infections, blood clots, and spontaneous bleeding. Varicose veins can be caused by weakened valves (valve failure) inside the veins, which allow blood to accumulate in the veins rather than flow to the heart.

Vein disease is preventable and treatable. We invite you to contact Cardiology Associates of South Florida for a consultation or second opinion.
